Seeking a full time, Board Certified/Prepared Internal Medicine or Family Medicine physicians to work at VA Northern California HCS; with opportunities in Sacramento area (6), Chico (2), Martinez (1), Redding (2) and Yuba City (1). Eligible applicants should be able to provide comprehensive primary care: including gender specific (Women's Health), telehealth, and virtual care. Our staff physicians are an integral part of a team that focuses on the whole health of their patient panel and works to provide the highest quality of care. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00a-4:30p

Basic Requirements:


  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.


    Preferred Experience: Best qualified candidates will be Board Eligible/Board Certified Physician in specialty with 5+ year's experience in the field.

    ANother example: The best qualified candidate will be a seasoned clinician who demonstrates extensive and progressive leadership experience, both as a clinician and an administrator, and possess the ability to promote innovation, inspire organizational excellence, be able to build teams, and coach clinical leaders as they work toward common goals. Exceptional interpersonal skills, project management, organizational planning, and facilitation skills are essential. The successful candidate must have the ability to meet VA established performance measure goals and possess a thorough knowledge of the standards of the Veterans Health Administration and other accrediting bodies.

    Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

    Physical Requirements: A pre-placement physical examination will be completed prior to appointment to determine the physical and mental fitness of candidates. The examination will be concerned with the mental and physical ability of the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment and will include requisite laboratory and other screening as required by Federal regulatory agencies. Physician applicants must have the mental and physical ability to perform core privileges required by the specialty position in addition to any specialty privileges requested. Physical demands of this position involve primarily walking, talking, use of telephone/computers, etc. Strenuous physical activity is not required although the incumbent is expected to withstand pressure and stress as part of their day-to-day activity.
