Job Description:

DescriptionESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:May include, but are not limited to, the following:Responsible for supervising lifeguards, swim instructors, and swim coaches.Preventative lifeguarding and patron surveillance.Enforce pool rules.Execute water rescues and emergency assists to patrons using appropriate life guarding techniques.Administer CPR and first aid to patrons.Complete safety and hazard checklists as required. Successfully demonstrate certification requirements during periodic drills and in-service.Develop, implement, and teach a variety of safety trainings, drills, and in-services to ensure maintenance of certifications to staff as required.Provide quality customer service; have positive communication and interaction with patrons, program participants, parents, customers, and co-workers, and maintain a professional demeanor. Teach swimming lessons and create lesson plans as required.Complete administrative work such as incident/accident reports, staff schedule, concession reports, daily pool reports, swim lesson evaluations, and staff evaluations as required.Assists with staff scheduling and rotations to ensure that adequate coverage of pool areas are maintained.Orients lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities.Acts as a replacement or finds replacements for schedule gaps for lifeguards and/or swim instructors.Acts as a liaison to the public, answers questions and handles customer concerns and complaints.First review of applications will be March 1st, however position will remain open until all spots are filled.RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSPossession of or ability to obtain a current Lifeguard Training certification per aquatic season requirements.Possession of or ability to obtain a current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification (or equivalent) per aquatic season requirements. Possession of or ability to obtain First Aid for Public Safety Personnel - Title 22 certification (or higher) per aquatic season requirements. Possession of or ability to obtain Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification per aquatic season requirementsorhave at least 4 aquatic seasons of experience working as a swim instructor. Must have at least two years of experience working in an aquatics setting.Must have at least two full seasons of work experience as a lifeguard/swim instructor.Must have at least one year of experience supervising employees. Must have experience working with children and the general public.Lifeguard Training Instructor certification desired.Emergency Medical Responder certification (or equivalent) desired. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.Ability to effectively communicate including projecting voice across distance.Level of hearing and vision necessary to perform essential functions of the position.Ability to read and write at a level necessary for acceptable job performance.Ability to follow CARD regulations and guidelines for emergencies.Ability to be in compliance with and meet criminal history check requirements.Possess a valid California Driver's License and be insurable on the District's vehicle liability policy (if required to drive a vehicle). PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to remain alert, with no lapses in consciousness.Frequent sitting, including in and around an elevated chair, walking or standing for long periods of time on slippery ground.Occasional bending, twisting, kneeling, or squatting.Ability to hear noises and distress signals in an aquatic environment with background noises.Frequent hearing and talking in person; occasionally by phone.Constant use of overall vision.Frequent lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 25 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds; and occasionally up to 100 pounds or more utilizing rescue equipment and techniques.Frequent grasping, holding, and reaching, including reaching over head or shoulders.Frequent participant, public, and co-worker contact.Occasional exposure to loud noises and large groups of people.WORKING CONDITIONSWork performed in an outdoor environment subject to weather conditions, sun exposure, and water exposure. Duties include exposure to recreation-related field noise or street noise. Travel in between sites within a 6 mile radius may be required.
