Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARYThe Buyer-Planner ensures that raw
materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, advertising, and
services (production, design and expense) are purchased at the best
price, quality, and on-time delivery in support of the Company's
plans and objectives. The Buyer-Planner is also responsible for
internal and external contract review, new product development
projects, and supplier evaluation and selection.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to
perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed
below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability
required.
- Source and purchase components, materials, equipment, tools,
supplies, and consulting services in support of the production
needs and development of new products
- Demonstrate ability to work on projects to completion and work
effectively with some direct supervision from the Purchasing
Manager
- Establish and maintain good supplier relationships
- Confer and negotiate with suppliers to obtain product or
service information such as price, availability, and delivery
schedule
- Negotiate long-term agreements and contracts with key
suppliers
- Work with suppliers to establish lean manufacturing supply
programs and administer those programs
- Optimize inventory levels of purchased materials
- Monitor price change activity and recommend and implement
corrective actions as appropriate
- Support New Product Development Teams as the Materials Lead and
be able to lead projects as required from time to time
- Work closely with Engineering to provide components and
materials to meet aggressive development schedules
- Identify suppliers who specialize in "Fast Turn Around" parts
for engineering evaluation and prototype builds
- Prepare selected management reports and analyses at the
direction of the Purchasing Manager
- Establish and maintain Just-In-Time deliveries with
suppliers
- Assure compliance with department and company policies and
procedures
- Select products for purchasing by testing, observing, or
examining items
- Estimate values according to knowledge of market price
- Determine method of procurement such as direct purchase or
bid
- Review bid proposals and negotiate contracts within budgetary
limitations and scope of targeted product costs
- Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with
inspection or quality control personnel, users, vendors, and other
determine source of trouble and take corrective action
- Approve invoices for payment; investigate and resolve
discrepancies
- Expedite delivery of goods to users
- Plan and schedule production builds as a result of forecast,
master schedule, and material availability
- Communicate status of materials to production, management, and
engineering
- Plan and coordinate the implementation of change orders
- Manage materials for work cells utilizing manual and/or
electronics "pull" systems
- Maintain ASL (Approved Supplier List) and supplier files for
assigned suppliers
- Works collaboratively with other members within functional area
as well as throughout the organization
- Performs all activities following Company safety
guidelines
- Ability to work schedules including additional hours and
Saturdays to meet deadlines
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as
neededIMPACTThis position positively impacts the organization when
tasks are successfully executed to ensure the flow of work orders
and materials to meet the production schedule.EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
REQUIRED
- BS or BA degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or
Operations related discipline, desirable
- Minimum 5 years' purchasing experience with 2 years in a
pull-based production planning and control systems environment
- Minimum 3 years' experience in a manufacturing environment,
preferably with in ag manufacturing Experience with electronic,
electro-mechanical, fabricated component, and packaging purchasing,
required
- Experience in management of Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI)
programs, required
- Experience with turnkey purchases of both wire harness and
cable assemblies, desirable
- Experience establishing purchasing agreements, desirable
- Active participation in the development and implementation of
manual and/or electronic "pull" systems, desirable
- Proficient using Microsoft Office software, required
- Working in a formal ERP system or other business level software
desirableSUPERVISION RECEIVEDWorks under general supervision.
Assignments given in the form of work orders and work instructions.

performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally passes
near moving mechanical parts and/or heavy fabrication equipment and
can be exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee may
occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and/or
hazardous chemicals. When required to be in the factory conditions
can be seasonally hot or cold and dusty. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

to): production, material control, and engineering

- Work performed in designated areas may require appropriate
safety precautions and protective equipment such as eye and hearing
