University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) at Sacramento State is seeking a
Coordinator, Climbing Wall and Group Facilitation for The WELL.

UEI and the University Union Operation of Sacramento State (Union
WELL, Inc.) are auxiliaries of Sacramento State and California
501(c)3 not-for-profit corporations. The Union WELL, Inc. consists
of the facility operations and programs of two buildings: The
University Union and The WELL (Recreation & Wellness Center). The
University Union facility, totaling approximately 220,000 square
feet, currently houses food service operations, retail operations,
multiple meeting and conference spaces, Associated Students, Inc.,
Student Organizations and Leadership offices, Women's Resource
Center, PRIDE Center, KSSU Student Radio, Public Information Desk,
Games Room, Union Gallery, Terminal Lounge (music/video digital
media), Student Computer Lounge, Meditation Room, computer and
printer workstations throughout the building, a University Police
Service Center, and various open lounge spaces. The WELL, totaling
approximately 165,000 square feet, houses five fitness studios, a
cardio suite, two fitness floors, a multi-activity court, four
basketball courts, a rock climbing wall, four racquetball courts,
an indoor running track, locker rooms, and conference center. The
WELL is also home to Student Health and Counseling Services. The
facilities provide services to over 31,000 students, as well as
faculty and staff on campus.

RATE OF PAY: $4,178 - $6,267 per month

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a full-time, non-exempt (eligible for overtime pay),
benefited position that is covered under the California Public
Employees' Retirement System. Continued employment in this position
is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises and
the employee, and either University Enterprises or the employee
can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will,
with or without cause.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sports
Management, Business Administration, Hospitality Management,
Exercise, Nutritional Sciences, or a related field or equivalent
combination of education and work experience.
Demonstrated experience with rock climbing programs such as: route
setting, clinics/workshops, climbing gear, climbing movement, and
safety requirements.
Demonstrated supervisory or management experience. Demonstrated
experience in selecting, training, coordinating, evaluating, and
supervising a diverse work force.
Demonstrated experience using experiential education skills for
team building activities and goal setting skills for employees and
groups.
Knowledge of personnel management, budgeting, and facilities
management.
Ability to direct management goals, facilitate change, and create
and implement innovative programs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to compile, prepare, write, and review reports.
Demonstrated experience working with personal computer software
applications including word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation,
internet, and email software, such as the programs in the Microsoft
Office Suite.
Experience working in a multicultural environment.
Knowledge of safety procedures and protocols as they relate to
climbing programs.
Must acquire CPR/AED and First Aid certification within three (3)
months of employment. Certification must be kept current.
Demonstrated ability to work in a high-pressure environment and to
establish and maintain effective working relationships with a
variety of staff and the surrounding community.
Ability to work a varying schedule, including extended hours, swing
shift, nights, weekends, holidays as needed, and in the case of an
emergency.
Must be fingerprinted and pass a background check. Must continue to
meet the established standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, Sports
Management, Business Administration, Hospitality Management,
Exercise, Nutritional Sciences, or a related field.
Demonstrated experience in large student recreation centers,
student unions, student activities, and residence life or student
development.
Experience in a large, non-profit corporation.
Climbing Wall Instructor Trainer with the AMGA or similar
instructor certification to teach climbing.
Involvement in professional societies and organizations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
With or without reasonable accommodation: Sit for extended periods
of time; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and eye-hand
coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal
communication; use of office equipment including computers,

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in an office and recreation center environment;
continuous contact with staff, frequent contact with the campus
community and the public.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Climbing Wall and Group Facilitation Coordinator is responsible
for the management, supervision, and scheduling of the climbing
wall located within The WELL. This position will work closely in
programming instructional classes on the wall and staffing special
events and/or groups that may use the wall. This position is
responsible for direct outreach to the campus and surrounding
community to promote utilization of the WELL and all of its
services including climbing wall and experiential education
programs. This position will work with groups, both on and off
campus, helping them to reach goals and learn teamwork through
experiential educational opportunities. This position will also be
responsible for team development programs at the climbing wall.
This position serves as a member of the campus recreation team and
will direct and manage staff, programs, and partnerships on campus
that help develop and support the mission of the WELL. This
position is also responsible for evaluation and assessment of all
aspects of the programs in their area. The position reports to and
receives general direction from the Assistant Director of
Recreation Programs. The position will supervise all part-time
facility staff in their respective areas, including internships,
graduate assistants and any other student work programs that are
appropriate.
The specific duties and responsibilities are as follows:
Ensures the supervision of the climbing area is conducted in
accordance with established rules and regulations. Analyzes and
establishes proper staffing levels to meet program safety
standards.
Provides direction to others in the management of the day-to-day
and overall operations, including hiring, training, development,
evaluation, and supervision of staff, student assistants, and
volunteers.
Maintains the master calendar for the climbing wall and ensures all
programs and events are scheduled in accordance with policies and
guidelines.
Assist in the development, coordination, organization, and
implementation of a quality rock climbing wall program, including
special events, instructional programs, themed climbing events, and
adaptive climbing programs for all members.
Coordinates all climbing wall maintenance, safety inspections,
equipment purchasing, inspection, and replacement.
Assist in the development, coordination, organization, and
implementation of a quality climbing based group facilitation
program. Responsible for ongoing development of new group
facilitation programs, games, and initiatives.
Organizes and manages all climbing events held in the WELL
including weekend and evening events in the facility.
Works with the Assistant Director of Recreation Programs to create
an inventory management plan, including tracking physical
inventory, compiling inventory reports, and making recommendations
for future inventory purchases.
Develops, implements, and coordinates daily equipment inspection
standards, equipment use checklists and ensures that employees are
provided safety training and attend safety meetings. Tracks
equipment usage and inspections for compliance with standard
industry regulations. Develops and conducts safety and risk
management training for staff regarding equipment and other related
items and/or activities.
Ensures all activities are conducted in accordance with established
and approved rules and regulations that address participant's
safety as a high priority as well as established service
standards.
Responsible for risk management associated with all programs and
events. Consults as needed with the Assistant Director of
Recreation Programs and proposes appropriate policy changes to
provide a safe environment for all.
Works with Assistant Director of Recreation Programs to ensure that
all planned and preventative maintenance programs and repairs are
made in a timely manner, including regularly scheduled safety
inspections of the climbing wall. Ensures completion of scheduled
routine maintenance of the climbing areas and any needed
reports.
Recommends future modifications to climbing and facilitation
programs using structured member feedback through on-going
evaluations, assessments, informal discussions, focus groups, and
written program surveys. Makes improvements and recommends
innovations and changes that enhance the programs and facility.
Ensures appropriate route setting and changing of routes for the
climbing wall as needed throughout the year.
Supports and maintains a sound working relationship with all
partners of the WELL, including campus departments and divisions,
in order to create a dynamic and fully collaborative recreation and
wellness program.
Assists the Assistant Director of Recreation Programs with creating
a strategic plan and budget that is responsive to student, faculty,
staff, and member input regarding programs and services in the
WELL.
Work collaboratively with Assistant Director of Recreation Programs
to propose Climbing Department modifications and program ideas to
The WELL's Advisory Group and Union WELL Inc. Board of Directors
when applicable.
Creates student learning objectives and an assessment program that
will demonstrate the attainment of skills, knowledge, and overall
personal growth as a result of participation in these programs,
student employment, or as a volunteer.
Maintains knowledge and understanding of pertinent governmental
health and safety codes for operations of the climbing areas,
including updates to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as
it pertains to facilities.
Organizes and conducts Climbing Department-wide and Climbing
Department Leadership staff meetings.
Performs other duties of a similar nature as requested by Assistant
Director and when designated, can act in the absence of the
Assistant Director.
Note: This position vacancy is with University Enterprises Inc., an
auxiliary organization of California State University, Sacramento.
This is not a University position; the incumbent will be an
employee of University Enterprises. University Enterprises operates
commercial enterprises on the California State University,
Sacramento campus; it is responsible for grant and contract
management and fiscal services for University research and
sponsored programs and provides fiscal services to University
